A Slow Passion this is the description given to Bistro Cellario a home-based restaurant located on the Dieprivier Sewe Passes in Hoekwil South Africa.

The Country fare and relaxed atmosphere makes this one of most unique restaurants along the garden route.
The restaurant started by husband and wife team Julio and Susan along with friend and experienced restauranteur, Willem Smith and later completed by Julio Jnr after he qualified while working in Europe as a French chef.

They follow the slow food principle of serving homemade food made with local and organic ingredients picked at their farm or purchased from specialist shops and the Wild Oats Community Farmers. Due to seasons and availability the menu changes from week to week and never disappoints.

The food varies from Venison and Ostrich meat, slow roasted Overberg Lamb, crispy Eisbein, whole line fish (prepared in the Pizza Oven), out of this world Salads, homemade Ice creams with flavours such as date and chai or fig, heavenly desserts, delectable cheese platters, farm food with a dash of Portuguese and a pinch of French flair.

They make their own breads, cakes, desserts and confectionary using stone ground flour from Bio-Wheat, farmed and milled by friends in the Overberg.

This restaurant is not only about the food and definitely not just a place to eat but this is an experience to be savoured.

The Country Side venue and the church-like barn are stunning and every detail of the décor, as with the food, the venue is unique and has a personal touch. You can enjoy watching your chefs create your masterpiece from scratch in the open kitchen or stare into the distance and admire the Outeniqua Mountains.

Things to keep in mind at BISTRO CELEIRO
Open Fridays (except winter) for pizza and burgers from 4pm onwards.
Open Sundays for á-la-carte lunch from noon. Booking is essential and recommended long in advance. 044 850 1026

Bistro Celeiro is not licensed, but also don’t charge corkage for glasses and ice.
Get there: turn inland from the N2 at the Hoekwil turn-off east of Wilderness. Drive about 19kmand look out for signage on the right.
