Crimson House Live in Knysna!

Crimson House is multi genre gypsy rock band that combine a number of styles including ska, Afro blues, hip hop, blues & rock. Originally based from Cape town, South Africa. Crimson House have become a festival & club favorite with their high energy interactive live performances becoming that of legends. They formed in 2010 and have since released 4 studio albums, with a collection of chart hitting tracks along the way.

---- as seen at The Knysna Blues Festival!!!! ----

Early career:
Crimson House initially begun as a bluegrass duo and by 2012 as a high octane blues quartet The group toured as "Crimson House Blues" and had released two albums under the name, "Smoke Dust & Whisky" (2012) featuring the cult hit “Breaking down low”, and “Red Shack Rock” (2013) featuring “Aphrodite” & “Pindrop Circle”. They dropped the “blues” in their name and released “Come Alive” (2015) which featured 16 songs with the addition of Nick Becker & Gareth Harvey as the newly added horn section that would change their sound forever.

After 2015 The group then featured as the band in a cabaret circus called “Trash Cabaret” in which they adopted a new found love for gypsy music to the likes of Gorgol Bordello and Balkan Beat Box. This new found love of offbeat gypsy influence lead the group to establish a new direction in their music and thus has begun the new journey in the making of Bounceology, their 4th Studio album.

After a winter break, the music society is ready to bring on the music once more and you should be there to be part of the magic of it all!

We welcome to Knysna for the first time a wonderful and internationally successful Violinist from China, Yi-Jia Susanne Hou and South African Pianist, Annalien Ball.

Yi-Jia performed the most challenging works ever written for violin when she was just 17 years of age. At three separate International Violin Competitions, the judges, unanimous in each case, gave her first prize which really established her reputation as an international musician of note.

Annalien is a professional pianist and accompanist who regularly performs with International visiting artists and tonight she will be with us in Knysna and on stage with Yi-Jia.

December nights in Sedgefield

Tony Cox's series of concerts, December Nights in Sedgefield, is a retrospective of one of the most influential South African acoustic guitarists of our time.

And for the first time in Knysna, he'll have the euphonious tones of his daughter Thuli to help him sweep fans along on the journey of fine musicianship laced with his throwaway humour and infectious social sideswipes.

Cox is a multiple award-winning guitarist who has travelled the world and performed on its finest stages.

His performances across SA and beyond are the stuff of legends. He now resides in Sedgefield and is putting on this series of shows for the good people of his chosen town and, of course, anyone passing through who would like to immerse their ears in an evening of world-class music.

Cox's golden-voiced daughter Thuli will be supporting her dad with a set of jazz and pop covers. There quite simply is no better way to spend a December evening in Sedgefield.

December Nights will go down on 15, 22 and 29 December at St Anthony's Church hall, Flamingo Ave, Sedgefield. Show starts at 19:00 and tickets cost R120 for adults, while pensioners and students pay only R80. Tickets available at www.quicket.co.za, and discounted tickets only available at the Fijnbosch Coffee Shoppe, 31 Main Service Road, Sedgefield. Phone 044 343 1870.

* Please note: no tickets will be sold at the door.

Roan Ash is a multi-talented singer and songwriter from Pretoria with a modern-countryblues-folk style. He started playing guitar in 2001, and in 2006 he started opening for other bands, and doing his own live performances. Since then, Roan has shared the stage with artists including Dan Patlansky, Matthew Mole Jan Blohm, Koos Kombuis, Arno Carstens, Vusi Mahlasela, Glaskas, Klopjag, Robin Auld, Albert Frost and others.

In February 2015, Roan recorded and released his debut album The Traveller, independently. He launched it to a full house at the iconic Atterbury Theatre, and toured it nationwide. He has performed at major art and culture festivals including Innibos and the Fijnwyn Wine Festival. Roan was a contestant on the first season of The Voice, South Africa, where he was instantly noticed by the music industry. In 2016, he co-wrote and recorded the theme song of the feature film “Sy Klink Soos Lente” with Bouwer Bosch and Dawie De Jager, which is receiving widespread acclaim. Roan joined the Inhoud Huis team in 2016, where he is working with songwriters including Christoph Kotze (Appel) and Johan Vorster on his next album. He is well on his way to a successful music career, with regular live shows of his powerful songs. He combines his soothing crunch style vocals together with meaningful songs and heartfelt performances. He describes his music as being inspired by his life’s journey.

After digitally releasing his brand new album “Whiskey to my soul” in April, Roan has been the talk of the town, not only locally but internationally as well. He has sold out the Atterbury Theatre two weeks prior to his physical album launch on 22 May 2018.

KNYSNA INTERNATIONAL GUITAR NIGHT

The first ever Knysna International Guitar Night takes place at the Montessori School in Knysna on
the 31st March featuring the extraordinary percussive guitarist Thomas Leeb who is Austrian but
now hails from California USA. Doubling up the acoustic guitar-power quotient on the night is
South Africa's own, Tony Cox, making this an absolutely not to be missed, humdinger of a guitarslinging
show, the likes of which have probably not been seen in this region before.

Thomas Leeb played his first solo concert at the age of fifteen and released his first acoustic guitar
album at seventeen. Leeb is a frequent performer at concerts and festivals in Asia, the Americas
and Europe and has been featured in numerous guitar magazines all over the world. Every year,
he teaches workshops and master classes in universities and colleges and his album “Desert
Pirate” was voted one of the essential albums of the last twenty years by Acoustic Guitar
Magazine.

Thomas's peculiar guitar style owes as much to percussive techniques as traditional
fingerstyle guitar. What sets Thomas Leeb apart from some of his contemporaries is his
ability to make pyrotechnics serve the music. Three years studying West African traditional
music give him a sense of timing and groove that is unusual in a guitarist. All this has
earned him a loyal world-wide following.

Tony Cox should not need much introduction to South African audiences. This multiple awardwinning
guitar player is about to release a critically acclaimed vocal album titled Enormous Flowers
that has seen the home-grown acoustic guitar legend reach a whole other audience. He will be
mixing it up on the night with songs from the new album and his trade-mark, jaw-dropping guitar
playing.
