Knysna Bull

The Knysna Bull is the reincarnation of the popular Knysna 200, moved to a more favourable slot in the mountain biking event calendar – when the Garden Route weather is at its best and the mountain biking community is at its most vibrant. The event will feature three stages of roughly 65km, with stage starts outside Knysna and all finishes on Thesen Island. An urban prologue on the 21st along the streets and lanes of Thesen Island will kick off the racing in style. Although the racing is expected to be fierce throughout, the Knysna Bull is suitable for everyone. While the elite riders and top amateurs use it as a final tune up ahead of the gruelling Absa Cape Epic, riders of all levels will enjoy the Knysna Bull as they will be treated to superb forest riding, a relaxed lagoon side race village and a weekend away in #TrailTownSA, the capital of destination mountain biking.

A showcase of diverse routes. This Bull stage is a tale of two halves; the first is for the climbers as the ascent starts from the gun. From the days’ high point, you’ll leave the panoramic views of the Outeniqua Mountains behind and race for home through arguably the races most underrated single track, forgotten forestry roads and dairy farming traverses. Phantom Pass delivers you back to sea level and a rewarding finish around the lagoon edge.

The Harkerville forest routes are revered as some of the finest trails around. In 2018, we’ve moved this indigenous forest bliss to the second stage to cover every good inch of it. This stage inspired our 2018 tag #getlost. You too will no doubt lose yourself in the moment.

The Amazing RECM Knysna 200

For 2016 Garden Route Events raised the bar with their GR300 and GRLite races which arguers well for would be RECM Knysna 200 entrants. The 2016 RECM Knysna 200 is now set to take Garden Route racing to even more impressive heights.

Taking place from the 17th to the 19th of June 2016 the RECM Knysna 200 boasts more amazing singletrack than ever; a race village centred around one of Knysna’s most popular restaurants, Tapas Bistro; and a small field limited to 350 riders. The daily routes are manageable in distance at around 65km per day, with race director Patric Mosterd choosing to highlight the best possible trails in the area. He’s also mindful of the climbing, with the hilly nature of the Garden Route it’s not always easy to limit the altitude gain, but Mosterd managed to do so for the 2016 GR300 and has a few more tricks up his sleeve for the RECM Knysna 200 routes, including shortening Stage 1 to save your legs for a secret singletrack in the closing stages of the stage.

The three day stage race is sponsored by Capital Management firm RECM and the firm views it as an excellent opportunity to unwind in a town they love, participating in a sport they adore as they recharge their batteries. The intimate nature of the race, with only 350 riders means that by Stage 2 you’ll recognise all your fellow riders. For RECM this means they have the chance to answer rider’s questions on the complex world of investments personally.

With the routes showcasing the best of the Garden Route’s trails the additional incentives to entre take a back seat, but they need not! RECM Knysna 200 entrants can expect amazing lunches and dinners catered by Tapas Bistro; a daily finisher’s beer from the grandfather of the South African craft beer scene Mitchell’s Brewery; limited edition race kit; well stocked water points with nutrition by Hammer Nutrition, hydration by Just Water and bike care by Squirt Lube. Plus Knysna Tourism are going out of their way to ensure everyone has the best possible time in Trail Town South Africa because they want you to keep coming back year after year, for every one of the Garden Route Events hosted in Knysna…

The 16th of June is the Youth Day public holiday so take a slow cruise up, or down, to Knysna bring along your whole family and make it a weekend to remember.
