For many years the small seaside hamlet, Buffels Bay (fondly dubbed Buffs), just 20km outside Knysna, has lured those drawn to the sea and surf. This beautiful bay is a hub for water sports enthusiasts; surfers, Stand-up-Paddle boarders (SUP) and kayakers. These water lovers often frequent this relatively sheltered beach and during December it buzzes with holiday revellers.
If you head down to Buffs on any given day (weather permitting) you will see Donovan Smith, passionate surfer and owner of Trip Out Adventures. Don is a qualified lifeguard, medic, registered tour guide, surf instructor and avid lover of the great outdoors. He is further an ardent advocate for our area, which he calls “paradise” and loves to share this passion for the diverse splendour of the Greater Knysna with his clients.
While Trip Out offers a host of guided water and land based activities including kloofing, snorkelling, stand up paddling and boating throughout Knysna and surrounds, they are best known for having some of the most experienced surf instructors in the area. Buffels Bay, a year round surfing hotspot is rarely overcrowded and the vibe among the surfers is friendly and laid-back, making it the ideal place to hone your surfing skills.
Trip Out strives to provide all their clients with a memorable and safe surfing experience. Living up to their motto - “Surfing has never been so fun and easy”! Using boards geared towards beginners, Don guarantees that newbies will be standing on their first lesson. Trip Out teaches people of various ages, so if surfing has always been on your bucket list of things to learn, give Don a call and go shred some waves!
