Gerhard Beyleveld whose career has seen some diverse farming such as sugarcane, sheep, and chickens as well as one of the first hops farmer in South Africa. In 1988 he left hops behind to become a dairy farmer when he bought a portion of the original Leeuwenbosch farm in Rheenendal. His dairy farming career started with his first cow called “Amen”.
Michelle Lencoe finally turned her dream into a reality when she guided her first township tour in Sedgefield on Tuesday as Li Themba Crafts and Tours. Her tour takes you through her home township of Smutsville in Sedgefield and shows you all the hidden gems the neibourhood has to offer.
On Foot in the Garden Route’s much awaited 4th edition, covering walks in the area from Dana Bay to Buffalo Bay, has been published. Author Judith Hopleyfirst published her book in 1993 with the 3rd edition being produced in 2003. More of a carry it with you guide than a coffee table book, On Foot is very popular with locals and holiday makers keen on exploring the trails on offer in this area.
The GR300’s new home on the calendar will be the last weekend of April (28-30 April 2017) which will allow you to maximize your time in Knysna as both Thursday the 27th and Monday the 1st of May are public holidays. This means no more rushing up to get to registration on Thursday evening and no more driving home tired on Sunday afternoon. Plus the GR300 is no longer the test of endurance it initially was, for 2017 the popular 2016 routes will be reinvigorated to ensure that the race provides more fun on the trails than it does stern challenges.
On Sunday 26 March, 2017 the second edition of the Knysna Heads Marathon will take place on Thesen Island. RE/MAX Coastal has come onboard this year as main sponsor and partner of the event. The Knysna Marathon Club is extremely excited to have such an energetic and creative team onboard to bring the Southern Cape and surrounds a fun and scenic event.
