Called Knysna Fire Stories, the book is proudly sponsored by South Africa’s leading short-term insurer, Santam. It features real stories of tragedy, heroism and kindness during and after the inferno and also contains dramatic images taken by Garden Route-based amateur and professional photographers. Over 3400 photos, 250 videos and 160 stories were submitted to be considered for publication in the book.

Garden Route Rebuild Initiative leads route to recovery
Cooperation and a shared dream to ‘Build Back Better’ are key ingredients as the Garden Route recovers from the destruction caused by wildfires that tore through the region in June this year. That’s the message from Hildegarde Fast, chairperson of the Garden Route Rebuild Steering Committee, which is coordinating the Garden Route Rebuild Initiative.
The Stanley Grootboom Pop Up Art Gallery will open on 1 November at Woodmill Centre in Knysna. Grootboom’s famous Book Installation and other original works including a number of oil paintings (images of Knysna) will be on exhibition.
