Knysna Speed Festival - DJ Challenge
An inter-provincial DJ Challenge has become part of the excitement of the Renault Simola Hillclimb from 18 May to 20 May. DJ’s from the Eastern Cape, the Western Cape and Gauteng will battle for the honour of fastest DJ up the hill! Taking part are the cream of the dare devil DJ’s on radio. Jeremy Harris from KFM, Daron Mann from Algoa FM, Deon Daniels (known as DJ Ready D) from Radio Good Hope and Arod from Jacaranda FM.
The contestants will be driving the latest 184kw Renault Megane RS Sport, and as KFM DJ Jeremy Harris says: “The Renault Megane RS Sport is a rocket! And I love it! If I ask nicely do you think they'll let me keep it?! LOL!”
Not strictly a race to the death, this challenge is more about fun and capturing the spirit of the Knysna Speed Festival where the message is to enjoy the day and have fun funfun!
The DJ’s are upbeat and excited about the challenge – as is obvious from their comments about taking part: DJ Ready D has a background in drifting, which may prove to be to his advantage when he slides his way up the hill. He says: “I am excited about being a part of this initiative. I hope I have not lost my groove straight lining and not sliding since my involvement with drifting. Driving the Megane for a week now certainly gives me a level of confidence knowing that this car is a phenomenal handling machine.”
KFM’s Jeremy Harris says: “I’ve never been to the Knysna Speed Festival before and so I’m really looking forward to being part of the excitement, the adrenalin, the revving of engines and all the fun, and to meeting as many people as possible. Renault has given me their brand new Megane RS Sport to drive. It is a rocket on wheels and so that will make me very fast and hard to beat…in my mind at least!” Arod is hyped for the challenge and says “I am so looking forward to the challenge. I have never done anything like this before and think the other radio stations better watch out. I cannot wait to see what it's going to be like to push a car to the limit and what better car to do it in than the RS!!”
Daron Mann is no stranger to the challenges of mastering the road. He grew up in Johannesburg and says that his driving skills were honed in the big smoke! However he is modest about his chances on the hill, he says “If I was a betting man I would not bet on me to win!” Might this be a smoke screen to confuse his competitors – all will be revealed on the giant slayer – The dreaded Hill to Simola! There is a DJ Challenge poll on the Speed Festival website, and fans of the DJ’s are encouraged to vote for their favourite DJ. www.facebook.com/KnysnaSpeedFestival
