Knysna Makers’ is a Local Economic Development (LED) project focused on the training and developing of local artisans, crafters and manufacturers. LED encompasses a range of disciplines including physical planning, economics and marketing, all with the goal of building up the economic capacity of a local area to improve its economic future and the quality of life for all.

The Greater Knysna area boasts many talented artisans, and this initiative has made it possible for many accredited crafters to showcase their products across various platforms. Knysna & Partners assisted in securing exhibition space for various crafters at the Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival, the Leisure Island Festival and the Gifts of Knysna during the festive season. They have also received training from SA Host, which is a national programme which was launched to help develop service excellence skills and promote a culture of collective hospitality in South Africa by improving the overall national service standards.

This year will see the launch of an electronic catalogue for the accredited crafters to sell their products. We encourage both locals and visitors to support this exciting and promising initiative and to purchase locally made, unique-to-Knysna products. Over the next few weeks we will be showcasing individual crafters and products owners. Watch this space!
