Starting 31 January 2015, the Knysna ParkRun will happen every Saturday at 08h00am and gather for a coffee at a local café after the run.

What is Knysna parkrun?
It is a 5km run - it's you against the clock.

When is it?
Every Saturday at 8:00am.

Where is it?
The event takes place at George Rex Drive, Knysna.

What does it cost to join in?
Nothing - it's absolutely free! But please register before your first run.

How fast do I have to be?
We all run for our own enjoyment. Please come along and join in whatever your pace!

The start is 150m north of the Loerie Park sports complex. From the start you proceed along a paved walkway in a northerly direction. After 800m turn left in a westerly direction and follow the paving until the turning point at 2500m. It is an out and back course, so you go back the same way. The course is completely flat and is paved the whole way.

Parkrun organises free, weekly, 5km timed runs around the world. They are open to everyone, are free, safe and easy to take part in. People of all abilities are encouraged to take part in the event. Parkrun events worldwide are held in pleasant parland surroundings and Knysna is no exception – taking place around the Knysna Estuary.

The Knysna Parkrun will be launched on Saturday, 31st January at 8.00 am. It will start on the grass area on the town side of Loerie Park – near the Sea Scout hall. From the start, the run proceeds along the brick footpath around the lagoon to the halfway and turning point near the wooden bridge close to Long Street, and then goes back the same way to the start/finish line.

Thereafter the Parkrun Knysna will be held every Saturday morning at 8:00 at the same venue.

Parkrun South Africa is organised by Bruce Fordyce, of Comrades Marathon fame and from small beginnings is now contested at 47 different locations with over 2 725 events held to-date with 100 387 competitors. Bruce and his wife Gill will be present for the Parkrun Knysna launch. Parkrun encourages everyone to participate whether a runner, jogger, walker or stroller – irrespective of ability and is for the whole family. Every participant is timed and the results appear on the webpage after each event.

All the events are free of charge and organised by volunteers. Kenny Wilkinson is the Parkrun Knysna race director and he has put to-gether a small team of volunteers to get the first few races off the ground and will be looking for more volunteers.

All entrants must register in advance of their first race on www.parkrun.co.za and receive and print out their own barcode which is unique to them. This must only be done once, and will enable them to run in any Parkrun around the world.

Ample parking is available at Loerie Park.

All runners and walkers are invited to come along and join in the fun irrespective of the weather. Join the hundreds of thousands of individual Parkrunners every Saturday morning at 08:00 around the world.
