Summer is in full swing and over the next couple of months, Knysna & Partners will be highlighting many of the varied activities which can be enjoyed throughout the Greater Knysna area over the season, from wild adrenaline-fuelling pursuits to milder, more relaxing options.
Wild Adventure – Garden Route Trail Park
Boasting some of the most radical trails in the Greater Knysna area, the Garden Route Trail Park is THE ultimate destination for mountain biking enthusiasts. The park unfolds at the base of the Outeniqua Mountains near the Karatara River Gorge and their various trails have been designed to showcase the aesthetic elements of the area, from pastoral farmland, to fynbos and indigenous forest and the farm's varied topography is perfectly suited to mountain biking.
A series of sinuous, fast flowing single-track trails totalling more than 30 kilometres have been expertly blazed, incorporating lots of downhill sections and other features such as rollers, table tops, berms and bridges. The trails are geared toward riders of all levels of ability, essentially becoming more challenging the faster you go, which will undoubtedly appeal to those seeking a serious spike in adrenalin levels.
One of the park’s biggest draw-cards is the always-expanding Pumptrack and on any given weekend you will find youngsters tearing up the track with its continuous succession of berms and rollers. The outer loop has been designed as a BMX track for those who want to test their ‘airborne’ talent, or anyone just wanting to ride casually.
Wind down after your ride at the Trail café, which is fully operational during season, offering light meals, coffees and coolies. They also offer fantastic amenities such as showers and bike washing stations. There is also absolutely amazing accommodation – a stylishly converted old farm house.
