Your visit to Knysna isn’t complete until you have quaffed our town’s finest craft beers. Since opening their doors in 2012, the owners of Red Bridge Brewing Co., Darren Berry and Chris Marsicano have been exploring the boundaries of artisanal brewing with much success. Their beers are so jam-packed with flavour that in a few short years they now have nurtured a devoted following from local craft beer fundis.

With the recent opening of The Tasting Room at the Red Bridge Brewing Co, visitors’ will have the opportunity to both sample and buy their three handcrafted beers in a relaxed, minimalistic setting in Knysna’s Industria.

Their first born beer was the handcrafted No17 Golden Ale, which they describe as “a medium bodied Golden Ale. This Ale offers a subtle malt flavour and bitterness with a surprisingly refreshing tropical fruit hop aroma. Since then they have added two more beers to their stable: the Woodcutter Saison, which is described as “refreshing Belgian farmhouse style ale with subtle notes of coriander and Seville orange and a crisp, effervescent finish.”

And last, but certainly not least, is their Privateer India Pale Ale (IPA). This beer is a bold IPA with robust bitterness and distinct hop flavour and aroma, well balanced by a velvety malt backbone.

Another reason to head to this new tasting room is the Whitewashed Restaurant (situated on the same premises) food. So, while you are taste testing some craft beer Whitewashed can send over a tasty accompanying meal.

Whitewashed is a quirky and fun restaurant and coffee shop which serves home-style meals and yummy baked goods with a great courtyard atmosphere. They also have a selection of gifts on sale.

The Tasting Room is situated on 5 Noble Street, Knysna Industria.
Opening times: Monday to Friday 8am-4pm (times will be extended over the holiday season)
Tastings will start at the end of November at a cost of R20 for a tasting board of three beers.
