Knysna’s revered Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival taking place from 1 – 10 July promises to once again provide the best 10 days of winter.

This year a brand new event, Seafood Wednesday makes its debut, offering all things seafood on Wednesday, July 6. The day starts off with a seafood route, leading seafood lovers to participating restaurants across Knysna throughout the day.

On the route they will be tempted by outstanding dishes such as the pan-fried yellowtail with salsa verde new potatoes from The Bell and 34 Degree South’s East Coast sole.

Although the concept of Seafood Wednesday is new, those providing the sought-after delicacies are definitely not. Festival favourites, such as Kilzers Kitchen Cookery School will host their popular Seafood Long Table while Robberg Fisheries will ensure a seafood-fest at their Robberg Fisheries Seafood Pop-Up Shop at the Festival Pavilion throughout the day.

Towards sunset the Festival Pavilion will come alive with the SASSI Fish Braai, Oyster Shucking and Eating competitions as well as the famous Pick n Pay Flavours of Knysna served with Tabasco.
Local aspirant braai chefs will compete for the title of Best Fish Braaier in Knysna during the SASSI Fish Braai. While an esteemed panel of judges will choose the winner the public may purchase samplers.

While the braaiers show off their skills, the Oyster Shucking and Eating champions will be crowned.
One of the undoubted Festival highlights, the Pick n Pay Flavours of Knysna served with Tabasco® will see some 800 oysters will be prepared by local restaurateurs competing for the coveted Best Dressed Oyster Award. This event has been lauded by oyster lovers nationally and is definitely one not to be missed. A further prize for the Best Dressed Stand will be awarded.

Besides the flavoursome delicacies on offer – including a three-course Tabasco-inspired tasting menu – entertainment, wine-tasting and a bar will add to the ambience and ensure everyone enjoys this one-of-a-kind event.

Entrance to the Festival Pavilion costs R20 per person and children under 12 have free access. This allows access to everything on the programme, with the exception of the Pick n Pay Flavours of Knysna served with Tabasco® event.

Pick n Pay Flavours of Knysna served with Tabasco® tickets cost R175 and includes a tasting voucher booklet, tasting glass and entrance to Seafood Wednesday.

Not sure what to do with the kids? The Momentum Health Kiddies Zone will be open till 23:00.
